From semiconductors and AI data centers to automotive and K-food, Korean companies are increasingly treating exhibitions as strategic platforms for global business growth

SEOUL, South Korea — As Korea strengthens its global competitiveness in semiconductors, AI infrastructure, automotive technology and K-food, companies across these industries are placing greater emphasis on a critical part of their global strategy: how to turn exhibition participation into measurable business results.

VM Consulting, a South Korea-based consultancy specializing in exhibition strategy, experiential business events and venue development, has recently seen growing demand for exhibition marketing programs from companies participating in major industry trade shows in Korea and overseas.

The programs span several of Korea’s most strategically important industries, including semiconductors, AI data center infrastructure, automotive and mobility, and K-food.

In the automotive sector, VM Consulting is providing exhibition marketing training for Hyundai Motor partner companies preparing to exhibit at the International Suppliers Fair (IZB) in Wolfsburg, Germany. As the automotive industry moves toward electrification, software-defined vehicles, AI and next-generation mobility, the program focuses on helping Korean suppliers identify potential global buyers, communicate their technological and business value, and convert exhibition encounters into long-term business opportunities.

In the semiconductor industry, VM Consulting is supporting exhibitors participating in SEDEX, Korea’s major semiconductor exhibition, with strategies for improving exhibition performance. As AI continues to accelerate demand for advanced semiconductor technologies, the program focuses on helping companies communicate complex technologies more effectively and connect with relevant global buyers and partners.

Another growing area is the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration industry. With the rapid expansion of AI data centers and high-performance computing infrastructure, thermal management and cooling technologies are becoming increasingly important. VM Consulting is conducting a full-day exhibition marketing program for companies participating in Korea’s major HVAC&R exhibition, covering exhibition objectives, buyer targeting, booth communication, on-site engagement and post-show follow-up.

The global expansion of K-food is creating similar demand. VM Consulting is providing exhibition marketing programs for Korean food companies targeting ASEAN markets, including Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. The programs focus on helping companies select the right exhibitions, understand regional market characteristics, identify potential buyers and distributors, and use international food exhibitions as strategic platforms for ASEAN market entry and business development.

According to VM Consulting, the convergence of these projects reflects a broader shift in the role of exhibitions.

As industries become more technologically advanced and globally competitive, exhibitions are evolving beyond places where companies simply display products. They are increasingly becoming strategic business platforms where technology, brand experience, buyer engagement and market development converge.

“Recently, I realized that many of the exhibition marketing programs we are being asked to deliver are concentrated in industries that are currently driving Korea’s global competitiveness — semiconductors, AI infrastructure, automotive technology and K-food,” said David Lee, CEO of VM Consulting.

“This suggests that as industries become more competitive, exhibition marketing itself is becoming more strategic. Having an innovative technology or product is only the beginning. Companies also need to know who they want to meet, how they communicate their value, and how they turn an exhibition experience into a business relationship.”

Lee added that the shift is particularly significant for technology-driven B2B companies.

“As technology gaps become narrower, the competition is no longer only about who develops the better product. It is also about who can communicate that innovation more effectively, create a stronger experience around it, and connect it to real business opportunities.”

VM Consulting works with exhibition organizers, exhibiting companies, convention venues and public organizations to transform exhibitions and business events from space-centered activities into experience-driven platforms that create measurable business value.

Through exhibition strategy consulting, exhibitor education, international exhibition marketing and experiential business-event development, the company aims to help Korean companies compete more effectively on the global exhibition stage.
